This treatment reflexively increases circulation and decreases congestion in the upper respiratory passages, head and throat. It is a calming treatment and helps most people sleep better through the night.
It's best to start the wet sock treatment on first day of an illness, ideally repeating it for three nights in a row. If you suffer from a chronic condition or compromised immunity, consult with Dr. Larrow before starting the wet sock treatment.
Sore throat or any inflammation of the throat, neck pain, ear infection, headaches, migraines, nasal congestion, upper respiratory infection, coughs, sinus infections, and many more.
What you need:
- 1 pair cotton socks
- 1 pair thick wool socks
- Warm bath or warm foot bath
- Cold water
1. Take the pair of thin cotton socks and soak them completely with cold water. Be sure to wring them out thoroughly so they do not drip.
2. If your feet are cold, warm your feet first. This is very important as the treatment will not be as effective and could be harmful if your feet are not warm to begin with. Warming can be accomplished by soaking your feet in warm water or taking a warm bath for at least 5-10 minutes.
3. Dry off your feet and body with dry towel.
4. Place the cold cotton socks on your feet. Cover with the thick wool socks.
5. Go directly to bed and avoid getting chilled.
6. Keep the two pairs of socks on overnight. You will find that the wet cotton socks will be dry in the morning.
